Terminal nursing care at home -
spiritual care in the last phase of life
The spiritual dimension is a big part of the way we do private healthcare.
The spiritual consists of both existential and religious aspects and becomes apparent when people are confronted with the fragility of life. At the end of life, the need to formulate and perhaps find answers in religion and life interpretations becomes prominent.
Our experienced nurses support the client in this process by helping to create meaning and coherence, support reconciliation, alleviate pain and nuance the client's own self-image.

Brochure about us
The aesthetics of nursing
As early as the 1800s, nurse Florence Nightingale highlighted the importance of aesthetically pleasing surroundings, and she was early to understand and describe the importance of different aspects of the client's environment such as color, light and fresh air. In addition, the social dimension of care in terms of proximity to the nurse.
At Private Health, we are aware of how space affects the human senses and well-being, and how, by stimulating these senses in the best possible way, we create a foundation and a prerequisite for our clients to achieve a sense of well-being and balance. The size of the home makes no difference, all rooms can be made safe, calm and comfortable to be in.
Care
People at the end of life depend on us as nurses to create this aesthetic and comfortable atmosphere. Therefore, at Private Health, we use our nursing judgment to create a space that helps the dying person leave behind feelings of chaos, anxiety, powerlessness and suffering. We believe that this is one of the paths that must be traveled for a dying person to move calmly and quietly towards the last breath of life.
At Private Health, we consider it our duty to ensure that our client is never alone on the journey towards the end of life. And we consider it one of our finest and most beautiful tasks to shape and set the stage for this journey to be as good and safe as possible.
We do this by including the spiritual and aesthetic dimension in our nursing care, always paying close attention to the dying person's senses.
Soothing treatment that eases symptoms
Even if it's not possible to get treatment for your underlying condition, you can get treatment to control and ease symptoms.
This is what is known as palliative or palliative care. The symptoms you relieve can be of:
- Physical nature (e.g. nausea, fatigue, pain)
- Mental nature (e.g. anxiety, depression)
- Social karakter (boligforhold, børnepasning, pension)</b
- Spiritual/existential nature (e.g. guilt, doubt, anxiety)
The importance of early palliative care
Focusing on palliative care as early as possible in the course of a person's illness is very important, as it can free up energy to focus on what's really important to you and your loved ones.
Even when death is imminent, many people manage to make the best of their final days, either alone or with their loved ones.
How long can you be in palliative care?
In principle, in today's world of palliation and palliative care, you can be in palliative care for weeks, months or sometimes years.
How Private Health can help in palliative care
One of the basic elements of a calm final period can be that a terminally ill person makes their needs known. However, this can be difficult as terminally ill people are often very tired and lack energy and strength.
Here Private Health can help you extend your thoughts, formulate letters and prepare all the practicalities that need to be in place before you enter your final phase of life.
The energy around you is everything we can't account for with methods and manuals, but which we know you can benefit from paying attention to and being aware of. A well-balanced energy in body and mind helps to create a calm space and atmosphere around you.
The relationship with relatives
Easing the energies around you can be about anything from your physical surroundings, smells, sounds and more. But also about unresolved relationships in your family, which we as a compassionate catalyst can address by continuously talking to and reassuring your relatives.
The purpose of being with you during your palliative period is to prepare your final days as best as possible so that you, as a terminally ill person, can move towards the end of life with peace of mind.
What is palliative care?
Palliation is a term often used when talking about terminally ill people. The word palliation is the healthcare term for providing relief to people affected by a life-threatening illness.
When you get the message that no more treatment can be given or you are terminally ill, many people ask themselves:
What's next?
We've received some nice words along the way
Dear Private Health and the entire team,
Thank you so much for stepping in during an acute and very critical situation for my mother and our entire family. Your professionalism and care was fantastic and very competent.
Highest recommendations from here.
Frederik
When our father became terminally ill, he wanted to spend his last days at home and we struggled to get public assistance, but ran into long waiting times and summer vacation.
Private Health and the entire team were our salvation! In just a few days they set up absolutely amazing help and support with visits and care every day and were incredibly flexible in quickly adapting care as the disease progressed.
Thanks to Private Health and the amazing and highly professional nurses, our father got the end of life he wanted.
Family in Nærum
After the death of our father, it was difficult for our mother to be on her own a lot and we couldn't cover visiting her every day ourselves. Therefore, it was a great support that Private Health was able to help with 2-3 weekly visits to our mother for a few months at very short notice.
Pleasant visits, chatting and short walks gradually helped her through the first difficult time".
Daughter, Louise

Subsidies from insurance and pension companies
In special cases, we encourage clients to investigate the possibility of subsidies from Sygesikring Danmark, insurance and pension companies or other related health insurances.
In this connection, Private Health can inform you that in the event of terminal care, Sygesikring Danmark provides an amount of approximately DKK 12,000. In order to receive this benefit, various declarations must be obtained from the doctor/hospital. Private Health is happy to assist in obtaining these. In all cases, we recommend that clients and/or relatives contact the relevant organizations for further information.
Aesthetic care at the end of life
It is important that the home does not look like a hospital room. That's why we incorporate aesthetics into our care to the very end, because we believe that this is one of the ways to bring peace and rest to our dying patients.
In the last days of a person's life, they usually stay in bed, with a nurse present to support both the dying person and their loved ones.

Support in the terminal phase
Private Health helps you in the time leading up to, during and after, with all these practicalities. One of the first things we take care of is:
Obtaining your terminal statement: In this, your treating physician writes that there is no longer justification for providing life-prolonging treatment.
The declaration is also a referral that allows us to order the medication you need for your final period. This medicine is expensive, but with a declaration it is free.
We make sure to pick up the medication right away: In addition, we order and requisition the aids that will be needed during this final period. This often includes a hospital bed, a pressure-relieving mattress and various items needed for medication administration.
Living room design: Together with you, we have agreed which room in your home you would like to be in. We make sure to design your room with the right sound, calm light and safe atmosphere in mind, based on everything you want to have around you.
Where it's most convenient, we set up a small "invisible nursing office" where all our tools are carefully tucked away, but still close at hand.
The role of the nurse in the terminal phase
The nurse has the overall overview and responsibility, and it is the nurse who observes you intensively. She observes if you show signs of agitation, pain or breathing problems. The nurse will give you medication at short intervals to relieve pain and agitation. This is so that you can move out of life calmly and at rest.
Personal care in the comfort of your home
The nurse is also the one who provides more direct care for you: She bathes you in bed, washes your hair, combs it, performs oral hygiene, changes your clothes, linen, puts a little lip balm on your lips, and gently massages your hands and feet with a pleasant cream. She opens and closes the windows regularly so that you are always in a well-tempered room with fresh and clean air.
If you have any special needs, we will often have discussed these with you before you enter your final days. Our most important nursing task is to be with you and relieve you and your relatives, so that you can have a good and peaceful final time together.
Caring adaptation of the home for terminal care
For end-of-life care, home should be a place of peace and dignity. At Private Health, we strive to create a safe and caring environment for terminal care.
We make sure the home adapts to the new needs - whether it's switching to a care bed, installing handles or removing doorsteps.
Our focus is always on creating the best possible framework for a safe and dignified ending in your own home.
