Private dementia care
Home health care for people with dementia
No matter how hard we strive to manage on our own in every situation, we cannot change the fact that we depend on one another. This is especially true during those periods of our lives when we face health challenges. At Private Health, we believe that care, presence, and physical activity provided by experienced nurses to people with dementia enhance quality of life and the joy of living. We believe that care is the best medicine—and we tailor our dementia care accordingly.

Nursing and care for people with dementia in their own homes
At Private Health, one of our core beliefs is that every person is equally important—with or without dementia. Supporting a family living with dementia and being a part of their daily lives requires trust. And, above all, it requires that we put ourselves in the shoes of our clients living with dementia. We believe that the ability to put oneself in another person’s shoes is the foundation for providing professional care and private nursing services.
We believe that caring is a big part of the road to recovery and happiness for our clients. At Private Health, we know from experience that if our focus is on strengthening and supporting the existing skills of the person with dementia, we will in this way stimulate their senses, which in turn creates peace for the whole family.
We can help with that:
- Care and Support
- Support for infrastructure
- Supporting natural sleep patterns
- Daily walks outside
- Medicine handling
- Household chores
What is private dementia care?
Private dementia care is professional care and support provided to people with dementia in their own homes. It focuses on maintaining the habits, routines, and surroundings that give the person with dementia a sense of continuity and security in their daily life.
At Private Health, care is provided by licensed nurses who specialize in caring for people with dementia. We see the whole person behind the diagnosis and take the time that municipal dementia care rarely has—for example, the time for a meaningful conversation, a peaceful morning, and meaningful activities that make a real difference.
Municipal home care for people with dementia is often characterized by a constant turnover of caregivers, brief visits, and limited time for personal attention. At Private Health, we offer a dedicated team of nurses who know your loved one, are familiar with the home, and adapt to the pace and specific needs. This creates the continuity and peace of mind that are essential for a positive experience—for the person with dementia as well as for their family members.
We always start with a no-obligation consultation, during which we listen to you and get a sense of the person with dementia’s daily life, resources, and wishes. From there, we design a customized plan that we can adjust as needed.

It takes trust to invite strangers into your home—and into one of life’s most vulnerable chapters. That is why we select our nurses not only based on their professional qualifications, but just as much on their personal qualities. Empathy, attentiveness, and calmness are essential for providing quality dementia care. As a trusted private provider of dementia care, we offer, among other things:

Your family member will be assigned a primary contact and a hand-picked team of nurses.

You can reach us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That gives you peace of mind.

Our approach to dementia care
Dementia is not a single disease, but a general term for symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, changes in personality and behavior, and a reduced ability to care for oneself.
At Private Health, we view care, presence, and meaningful activities as key elements of dementia care. We know that physical and social engagement can enhance quality of life and create a sense of calm and security for both the person with dementia and their loved ones. Through daily routines such as walks, physical exercises, cooking together, and practical tasks like doing laundry, we support our clients’ abilities and contribute to a more stable and dignified daily life.
Dementia affects not only the individual—but the entire family. When someone is diagnosed with dementia, daily life changes for both the person with dementia and their loved ones. At Private Health, we understand the complexity and emotional challenges that come with it. We are here to support you and your family so that life with dementia can feel
more secure and manageable.

When caring is the best medicine
At Private Health, we draw on the Dagmarsminde model and recognize that it is essential for our nurses to constantly think creatively as they support people with dementia in achieving a better and more meaningful daily life. We know that the path to this goal involves physical exercise, mental stimulation, patience, consistent structure, repetition, and routines. This includes a stimulating approach that can motivate the person with dementia to perform practical daily tasks. And there are always meaningful tasks that hold real significance for a person with dementia.
Our nurses take a caring and attentive approach and are constantly looking for ways to improve, so that our clients with dementia can enjoy life even more, gain greater self-confidence, do more things on their own, and achieve a higher quality of life. Private Health provides care and supports our clients on their journey toward a better life.
Everyday life without medicine
Sedatives have the effect of making one indifferent to everything. Life becomes meaningless, and many find that their family member with dementia becomes confused, aggressive, frustrated, and restless. This often leads to the prescription of antipsychotic drugs, which result in side effects such as movement disorders and dizziness. Add to this a bit of sleep medication, which causes the person with dementia to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Medication combined with a lack of meaningful activities disrupts the circadian rhythm.
Without medication, many people find that their family member with dementia becomes 'themselves' again with all the natural reactions that come with this condition. Their experiences become coherent, which creates a foundation for us as professionals to help the client develop and regain skills.
Get off the medication
Through a process known as tapering off medication, carried out in collaboration with the treating physician, we often find that people with dementia regain their zest for life and their appetite. This creates better conditions for nurses to stimulate all of the person’s senses—for example, through fragrant and comforting care, shared breakfasts, and cooking together.
This, combined with meaningful activities throughout the day that reflect the life the person with dementia has lived so far. Exercise, gymnastics, word games, number drills, walks, reading aloud, and conversations. After some time with a targeted and skilled focus on sharpening the senses, many healthy spouses find that they get their wife or husband back—and together we realize when care is the best medicine.
A meaningful everyday life
Who doesn't like to start a quiet morning with a warm bath followed by a fragrant breakfast? With the help of Private Health, our nurses make sure to fill the client's days with meaningful and genuine activities that fit the life the person with dementia has lived so far.
Together, the client and private nurse might go for a short walk before lunch and find a cozy spot in nature where they can feel the fresh air and smell the life around them. Later in the day, lunch is prepared together, which heightens all the senses and makes you want to eat. Client and private nurse read and look at pictures, and together they try to refresh old memories and sense the recognizable in everything new the day brings.
Exercise, conversation, and cooking are meaningful and genuine activities, as are natural movement, gymnastics, exercise with numbers and reading aloud. With Private Health at home, it's also possible to relieve the burden on the healthy spouse with the help of our competent and caring nurses.

Subsidies from insurance and pension companies
In special cases, we encourage clients to investigate the possibility of subsidies from Sygesikring Danmark, insurance and pension companies or other related health insurances.
In this connection, Private Health can inform you that in the event of terminal care, Sygesikring Danmark provides an amount of approximately DKK 12,000. In order to receive this benefit, various declarations must be obtained from the doctor/hospital. Private Health is happy to assist in obtaining these. In all cases, we recommend that clients and/or relatives contact the relevant organizations for further information.
What do we offer?
We've received some nice words along the way
Over the past year, Private Health has provided outstanding care for our aging mother with nurses, personal assistants, and physical therapists. With deep professionalism and great human warmth, they have created security and comfort in her everyday life. In addition to all the health care, Private Health also ensures that the home is always kept tidy, that it is aired out, that there are fresh flowers on the table, and that meals are prepared with care and respect for our mother's wishes.
After falling and breaking her elbow earlier this year, they retrained her with determination, so that she is now stronger and more mobile than before. And perhaps even more importantly, they have rekindled her zest for life. Our mother now enjoys going for walks, visiting museums, and meeting up with friends—always with Private Health as her loving support.
My siblings and I are not always able to be there for our mother. That's why it's wonderful to know that we can always count on the dedicated, professional, and caring staff at Private Health—a company with a lot of warmth and soul—thank you!

I sought home care for my father during a vacation in Mols. Private Health found a local home caregiver within a few days who provided care for my father. Very professional and highly efficient service. They went to great lengths to find a solution for us in an area they do not normally serve. A pleasure and highly recommended.

When our father became terminally ill, he wanted to spend his last days at home and we struggled to get public assistance, but ran into long waiting times and summer vacation.
Private Health and the entire team were our salvation! In just a few days they set up absolutely amazing help and support with visits and care every day and were incredibly flexible in quickly adapting care as the disease progressed.
Thanks to Private Health and the amazing and highly professional nurses, our father got the end of life he wanted.
Family in Nærum
After the death of our father, it was difficult for our mother to be on her own a lot and we couldn't cover visiting her every day ourselves. Therefore, it was a great support that Private Health was able to help with 2-3 weekly visits to our mother for a few months at very short notice.
Pleasant visits, chatting and short walks gradually helped her through the first difficult time".
